Richards was born and raised in Charleston. He graduated from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, in 2015, where he received a degree in Politics with a minor in History. He also studied abroad at Lincoln College in Oxford, England.
Richards attended the University of South Carolina School of Law and received his J.D. in 2018. While in law school, Richards clerked for the South Carolina Senate Judiciary Committee.
Upon graduating law school, Richards served as law clerk to the Honorable Diane S. Goodstein, Circuit Court Judge for the First Judicial Circuit. He then spent the next few years as an Assistant Solicitor with the Ninth Circuit Solicitor’s Office in Charleston handling a variety of criminal cases.
