Kayaking for a Cause

May 31, 2016

CHARLESTON, SC and RALEIGH, NC – May 31, 2016 – Three shareholders from the firm participated in the annual Lowcountry River Rats Excursion down the Edisto River last month. Attorneys Keith Coltrain, Brown McLeod, and Trey Watkins paddled the 60 mile venture in kayaks, starting at Givhans Ferry State Park and ending at Edisto Watersports on Big Bay Creek in Edisto Island. They met some friendly paddlers and encountered some territorial wildlife during the three day trip.

The excursion benefits the Friends of the Edisto , a non-profit organization that seeks to protect the Edisto River Basin by conserving its natural resources and its cultural character. The Edisto holds its reputation for being the longest undammed black water river in North America. The Friends of the Edisto are committed to keeping this gem from being exploited by excessive agricultural water withdrawals and are unwavering in pushing for legislation reform.

The attorneys enjoyed the adventure and the contribution they could make to help conserve the Edisto River.
